I create photographs of wild, quiet places—scenes meant to be felt as much as seen. Each print is an invitation to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world.
I was expecting a rose-colored sunrise. Instead, I found a quiet blue.
The ponds of Baxter and Katahdin are too numerous to count, spreading across more than 25,000 acres of lakes, ponds, and wetlands within the Park. I had come to this pond to spend several days wandering some of Baxter’s quieter, less-traveled ground. That morning, the water lay perfectly still.
Blue hour is the brief time before sunrise or just after sunset, when the first light settles across the land in blue tones. With the sun just below the horizon, the shorter blue wavelengths scatter more easily through the atmosphere, while the warmer reds and yellows are absorbed by ozone and fine particles, leaving the sky with its deep, quiet blue.
This is one of my favorite times to be out—too early for most, hushed and undisturbed. I saw a gentle awakening of the land, a moment when nature felt whole and in balance, inviting a slower, more attentive way of seeing.
